Resettlement
We provide support to women for a period of 6 months when they have been secured a new home following a period of living in Refuge accomodation.
This pre-tennancy support begins whilst a woman is in refuge; supporting applications, budgeting advice, Social fund applications & general preperation work.
The practical work for post tennancy consisits of:-
- Support with maintenance identification & reporting
- Ensuring understanding of occupancy agreement & handbook
- Negotiating additional facilities or redesign of property relating to mobility
- Support with money & or debt management
- Liasing with Landlord
- Liason relating to utility services ( water, gas, electric, telephone)
- Managing relationships with neighbours
- Accesing general advice
- Referral/signposting to other agancies
- Emotional support
- Other
Aims of resettlement
- To seek to empower the client and facilitate long-term solutions to their needs around rehousing.
- To identify the best available options for the client's rehousing.
- To seek to equip clients, either through training and advice given by the resettlement service or by referral to appropriate agencies, with skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Welfare benefits - seeking to maximise the client's income.
- Training and employment/career options.
- Tenancy rights and responsibilities.
- Cooking/domestic/home maintenance skills - if these are sought.
- Social skills/networking.
- Budgeting skills.
- To recognise that some clients have needs other than a home.
- To recognise that accommodation will only be sustainable where the client Is able to function in the community.
- The resettlement role is to ensure that new resources are identified and made available whenever possible.
