What is Resettlement Support

We provide support to women for a period of 6 months when they have been secured a new home following a period of living in Refuge accommodation.

This pre-tenancy support begins whilst a woman is in refuge; supporting applications, budgeting advice, Social fund applications & general preparation work.

The practical work for post tenancy consists of:

• Support with maintenance identification & reporting
• Ensuring understanding of occupancy agreement & handbook
• Negotiating additional facilities or redesign of property relating to mobility
• Support with money & or debt management
• Liaising with Landlord
• Liaison relating to utility services (water, gas, electric, telephone)
• Managing relationships with neighbours
• Accessing general advice
• Referral / signposting to other agencies
• Emotional support
• Other

Aims of Resettlement

• To seek to empower the client and facilitate long-term solutions to their needs around rehousing.
• To identify the best available options for the client's rehousing.
• To seek to equip clients, either through training and advice given by the resettlement service or by referral to appropriate agencies, with skills and knowledge in the following areas:
• Welfare benefits - seeking to maximise the client's income.
• Training and employment/career options.
• Tenancy rights and responsibilities.
• Cooking/domestic/home maintenance skills - if these are sought.
• Social skills/networking.
• Budgeting skills.
• To recognise that some clients have needs other than a home.
• To recognise that accommodation will only be sustainable where the client Is able to function in the community.
• The resettlement role is to ensure that new resources are identified and made available whenever possible.
